About Me

I’m Aaron Patric Campbell and I teach English as a Foreign Language at Kyoto Sangyo University. I’m currently interested in social uses of Web-based technology to enhance formal education by providing learners with conversational and reflective environments centered around what personally interests them. I’m now exploring the concept of a Personal Language Learning Environment in my EFL practice and am searching for ways to empower my students to through open Web approaches to online expression and interaction.
I also recognize the importance of meeting students on their “own turf” and have taken a recent interest in the use of mobile technology in classrooms. I am not undertaking some research in this area on student preferences and habits concerning the use of mobile phones with social media applications.
Recording natural language and conversation has been an interest of mine for some time now. Please have a look at English Conversations, a podcast site I co-create with a colleague and good friend.
Dekita.org is another collaboration with which I’ve been involved. Please have a look.
‘Under the influence of epoche’ is a snappy, catchy phrase that’s entirely misleading. Epoche is a state of mind that blossoms from within when we let go of our preconceptions and become more aware of ‘the way things are’, in their suchness. Epoche can never be imposed, nor can one imbibe of it. It arises from the inner self as the seat of one’s consciousness moves toward a more subtle center. Epoche suggests a gentle inner freedom.
