VLC Media Player
If you are using an iMac and want to play DVDs from various regions, use VLC media player. You won’t have to worry about having to commit to a particular region - as you do with Apple DVD player - and can watch DVDs from as many regions as you wish. In fact, you can stop using Apple DVD player all together.

I wonder if Windows computers are sold with DVD playing software these days and if they play multi-regional formats?

I’ve used VLC successfully for a while, but find that some of the newer discs don’t play properly. Even with the most recent version of VLC, it still gets stuck. Opening the log window shows an awful lot of errors. Hopefully, the developers of this wonderful little program will work that out before this ridiculous curtailment of products that we have paid for gets worse!
