New Mac Update for Skype

Albert Delgado of Educational Weblogs points us to the latest version of Skype (0.14.0.4) for the Mac, which allows users to make conference calls - something for which I’ve been yearning ever since I started using the software.

Now if only the developers at Skype would add the capability for users to ‘push pages’ as they speak, it would be a great improvement. I have found myself repeatedly sending URLs via the instant message featue as I talk, after which my partner has to click to open a window in his/her browser. Instead, Skype should have a window that serves as a shared browser, so my partner can instantaneously view any page I wish to show as I talk.

Since Skype is free internet telephony with excellent sound quality, it is only a matter of time before we are using it with mobile phones: free phone calls, anywhere, anytime, anyplace. How might that affect our concept and practice of communication in global education?
