Interview with Stephen Downes
If you haven’t heard this this interview with Stephen Downes by Robin Good, it is definitely worth a close listen:
RSS and and learning object metadata bring to us the capacity to learn quickly. We don’t need to spend as much time in preparation, for content streaming changes the flavor of learning from being based on static resources to being based on dynamic, fluid resources. We need to think of learning as more like a utility, something that is always there and changing, like electricity or water that always flows rather than being delievered in static units. [my paraphrase of the script]
I see RSS as helping us align ourselves with the flow of information and knowledge as it is being created, enabling us to share and experience in the process of learning and knowing cooperatively. What would years of such activity do to young minds? How would this affect the way we conceive of ourselves and others and what would this do to the way we communicate? Let’s immerse ourselves in a sea of ideas and find out.
