Electronic Village Online - 2005
The CALL interest section of TESOL is running the Electronic Village Online, a virtual extension of the TESOL annual convention.
The courses run from January 17th to February 27th, and are free
and open to non-TESOL members. Registration opens January
3rd. The courses look especially intriguing this year, so don’t
miss this opportunity to learn something new and meet language teachers
from all over the world.
Of particular interest to me is the course entitled, Using Weblogs in
ESL/EFL: New Developments, Uses, and Challenges, which I am
co-moderating with Barbara Dieu, Sean Smith (a.k.a. Blinger), and Graham Stanley. We will begin with a short review
of the EVO 2004 session on blogs in ESL/EFL
- in which we explored possible uses and learned how to create our own blogs - and
proceed to examine a broader scope of the various blogging tools and
how they could be put to use with ESL/EFL learners.
Participants will start their own blogs and become familiar with the
possibilities that RSS, aggregation software, and various other
internet applications have to offer. Finally, we will
take a look at existing weblogging projects in language teaching and
explore ways of cultivating and maintaining interest in a weblog
community. Most interesting are the weekly guest speakers we’ve
invited to share their expertise and experience with using blogs and
the various support tools in the classroom. Please join us.
