Radio Comments in Manila
As Will just pointed out,
it is nice to see that Manila is still being developed. Not only
can managing editors can now delete comments and trackback pings, but
comments now have their own permalink. I am still hesitant,
though, to leave a comment on another Manila site using a radio comment
box because, as far as I know, there is still no notification to email
mechanism if someone responds to my comment. That makes
continuing discourse unlikely, for I don’t have the time nor memory to
go back and check to see if someone responded. This forces me to
consider turning my comment into a blog entry, which as James suggests,
might ultimately lead to smarter conversations. Still though, not
having the notification feature is a disappointment and it largely
eliminates short, offhand comments from blossoming into deeper
discussion. Can’t Userland just add that, like…now?
While I’m at it, a taxonomy display feature in Manila - a la Drupal
- would be a spectacular and highly functional tool for
educational uses. I’d start finding ways to use it immediately if
it were available. Can they do that too?
