Seminal Ideas
In his book, A Way of Being (1980), Carl Rogers writes:
My psychoanalyst friend, Paul Bergman, wrote that no person has more than one seminal idea in his or her lifetime; all writings by that person are simply further explications of that one theme. I agree. (p79)
I don’t know whether I agree with this, but the statement does resonate with me. This seminal idea is somehow related to ‘the call’ that exists deep within our beings. Some don’t hear it. Others do, but, either through force of habit or conscious decision, choose to ignore it. A few hear it and follow it. They grow and develop with it. It becomes their inner guide. Those who are able to find a way to communicate the meaning of their personal call form a seminal idea.
Do you feel a call? Have you stopped and listened carefully? Why are you here? Can you communicate your bliss? Will anyone listen? Where will your call lead you? What is your seminal idea?
