I just realized that I’ve been using the term ‘interactive webpublishing’ to describe our webpublishing activities here at the East Asia Center
this semester. A feedster search indicated that nobody else seems
to be using this term; have I got it wrong? I’ve seen and may
even have used the terms ‘personal webpublishing’, ‘personal knowledge publishing‘, and ‘dynamic [...]
I said, ‘Furl is the cousin of Earl‘
She said, ‘For real?’
I said, ‘Exactly’
Furl is For Real.
Yesterday I sat down and finally examined its features and sure enough,
all the compliments are true. It makes bookmarking enjoyable and
effortless while constructing a searchable, personal archive. The
best part is that you can share them via RSS. You can [...]
For the next two weeks we’ll continue our regularly scheduled blogging
activities, with a particular focus on building a Personal Learning
Community (PLC) by using RSS and aggregators to tap into and organize
relevant feeds of news and information, as well as put ourselves in
touch with the writings of other human beings around the world.
Our Goals for Week [...]
I’ve created a folder in my aggregator specifically for ESL / EFL
related blogs, which so far consists of feeds from the following sites:
Edublog Insights
Bee-Coming a Webhead
Blahblahblog
Blinger
ESL-blog
I wish there were more like 40 or 50 feeds at the moment. Now if only Graham and Dana would enable RSS on their sites…
If anyone has suggestions on other [...]
I don’t think the point is really whether students are blogging or not,
but actually whether or not personal webpublishing is moving them (and
the institutions) in a healthy direction. In a short piece
hinting at the end of the university as we know it, Alex Halavais says:
What do students learn in school? If the student is aggressive [...]
Now that spring has finally arrived, it’s time for all furry animals to come out of hibernation. That includes The New Tanuki
of course, where things have been silent for a while. Unhappy
with the software, I’d been contemplating moving the site to a new
location. I decided, though, to stick it out another year and see
what happens. [...]
Will’s recent compliation, RSS: A Quick Start Guide for Educators,
came just at the right time, as we’re beginning to discover ways of
using RSS to meet our learning needs. We’ve started out
intent on finding feeds of interest through keyword searches on
Feedster and post analysis on Waypath. Gosh, none of us even
realized that we could subscribe to [...]
While examining how we could use Feedster
to find feeds relevant to our Japanese studies, we came
across a blog devoted to Japanese pop-culture. After taking a
quick look, our resident student expert on pop-culture in Japan
exclaimed, “That guy’s such a dork! I wouldn’t subscribe to him.”
This led to a discussion on how to determine whether a feed [...]
During this week’s f2f, we spent a considerable time examining how to use the features of two aggregators: Sharpreader and Bloglines; the biggest difference being that Sharpreader is internet based. We didn’t have a chance to look closely at RocketInfo, but it appears similar to Bloglines. Does anyone know of a free desktop based reader [...]
