RSS Ideas
Will’s recent compliation, RSS: A Quick Start Guide for Educators,
came just at the right time, as we’re beginning to discover ways of
using RSS to meet our learning needs. We’ve started out
intent on finding feeds of interest through keyword searches on
Feedster and post analysis on Waypath. Gosh, none of us even
realized that we could subscribe to search results! That
certainly opens up new possibilties for staying notified of resources
as they are created.
Also, I know Will has been writing about the potential benefits of Furl
for several months now, but for some reason the idea never clicked with
me until now - maybe it was the context? Anyway, I think it’d be
a great way to provide our learners with not only organized access to
relevant resources, but also a means of building upon what already
exists. This would save all of us a tremendous amount of time and
effort.
In addition to resources, what I’d also love to see are some practical
guides for putting learners in touch with people. Perhaps useful would be some
communication strategies or exercises that assist learners in the
process of engagement with people from outside the classroom? Does anyone know of something like this? Easier
access to resources is great, but also important is the potential to
interact with the creators of those resources that this technology brings
into being. I know that there may be some ethicial issues
involved in K-12, but definitely in HE and adult learning we should be
encouraging cooperation and conversation with people outside the
institution when we can (that personal something management diagram is on my mind as I write this - are you ever going to decide on a name Lilia?)
