Course Notes 9.1

During this week’s f2f, we spent a considerable time examining how to use the features of two aggregators:  Sharpreader and Bloglines; the biggest difference being that Sharpreader is internet based.  We didn’t have a chance to look closely at RocketInfo, but it appears similar to Bloglines.  Does anyone know of a free desktop based reader for Macs?

So after learning how to subscribe to RSS feeds, we then looked at two
ways of searching for feeds that would be relevant to our
studies.  Keyword searches on Feedster and Waypath post analysis yielded encouraging possibilities.  Technorati
showed us ways of tracking links to our sites.  It was suggested
that we use these tools to find and subscribe to sources
that provide apposite material for reflection and integration into our
academic studies.  Our weblogs could be used as spaces to record
and share our reflections as they arise.  In doing so,
not only are we organizing and expressing our thoughts in writing, but whatever
feedback we receive from readers can be sythesized with coursework readings and discussions into the formal
papers we write for our learning portfolios.  We also become more
aware of internet based resources and form relationships with people
outside our institution to support the work we are doing within.  Finally, we plant the seeds for continuing to use
these methods and tools after the class is over.  We learn to incorporate
these learning habits into our daily lives.
