IWP - Class Notes 4.2
Our meeting was short - we simply solved some HTML and CSS
template issues. Without this kind of technical support, Manila is a
difficult choice for use in classes. It’s challenging enough just
learning how to best use the main features of the software to accomplish one’s learning
goals. It’s becoming clear to me, though, that the cosmetic
appearance of a student site is an important aspect towards feeling
ownership and comfort in this medium. Much of that cannot be
changed without a working knowledge of how to edit HTML and CSS.
I think the ‘prefs — appearances’ menu is a step in the right
direction, but if Manila is to be adopted more widely in educational
settings, it needs to be easier for students to make changes in the
template without having to fool around with code.
