Mind, its Mysteries, and Control
I’ve been reading some Vedantic literature from Swami Sivananda over the past few days - a book I picked up in Rishikesh a few years back. As with other Indian Vendantic and Yogic literature, I find it to be highly verbose: full of classifications, nuances, overlapping terms, meanings and contexts, and therefore somewhat confusing. It still fascinates me though. I noticed parallels between Sivananda’s explanation on the relation of mind and matter, Rudolf Steiner’s work on Occult Science, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Buddhist Abhidharma, and from the little I know of writings on phenomenology (Husserl). I’d love to do a comparative study of these Ontologies in some future life. For now, I’m interested in exploring research methodologies that arise from such ontological positions and how they can be applied in the field of education, particular the type of experiential education practiced at Friends World. That should keep me busy. In the meantime, my daughter is days away from walking on her own and my video camera is broken.
